According to legend, this is the exact spot where Ananthapadmanabha settled down. The temple is also famous for its vegetarian crocodile named Babiya, who lived in the lake. Babiya passed away at the age of 75 on October 9, 2022. It is believed that she only consumed the temple offerings served to her twice a week and never harmed any humans.
The lake surrounding the sanctum sanctorum spans approximately 2 acres. While visiting the temple, make sure to explore the cave located in the right corner of the lake.
