The Bijapur Fort is located in the Bijapur city in Bijapur District of the Indian state of Karnataka. Bijapur fort has a plethora of historical monuments of architectural importance built during the rule of Adil Shahi dynasty.
The Adil Shahi Sultans who ruled for nearly 200 years in Bijapur had expended their utmost authority, almost exclusively, on architecture and the allied arts, each Sultan endeavored to excel his predecessor in the number, size, or splendor of his building projects. As a result, the buildings seen in and around Bijapur Fort and the town have been rightly called as the Agra of South India.

3. Bara Kaman

Place Description
Bara Kaman is an unfinished mausoleum located in Bijapur, Karnataka, India. It was built by Ali Adil Shah II of the Adil Shahi dynasty with the intention of creating a mausoleum of unparalleled architectural excellence. The plan was to have twelve arches placed both vertically and horizontally around the tomb of Ali Adil Shah. However, for reasons unknown, the construction of the structure was left incomplete, with only two arches raised vertically. There is a rumor that the construction was halted because the completed mausoleum’s shadow would touch the Gol Gombaz. Today, the remains of the twelve horizontally placed arches can still be seen. The site is currently managed by the Archaeological Survey of India.
Bara Kaman was constructed in 1672 AD and was intended to serve as the burial mausoleum for Ali Adil Shah II, his wives, mistresses, and daughters. The architect responsible for the design of Bara Kaman was Malik Sandal. The structure features raised walls in concentric arches. Once the arches were erected, the inner arches were toppled, leaving only the outermost arch.

4. Jamiya Masjid
Place Description
Begun by Ali Adil Shah I, Jamia Masjid is located in the southeast part of the city. It is the largest mosque in Bijapur and was started in 1565, although it was not fully completed. The mosque features an arcaded prayer hall with beautiful aisles supported by massive piers. The façade boasts an impressive dome with nine bays. Additionally, the large courtyard includes a water tank. The masjid covers an area of 10,810 square metres (116,400 sq ft) and has a rectangular shape measuring 170 metres (560 ft) x 70 metres (230 ft). The building showcases nine large arches on the façade, with five inner arches enclosing 45 compartments. However, the mosque remains incomplete as two minarets are missing or were not built. The dome itself is semicircular in shape.

Place Description
Shivagiri is a temple that houses an 85-foot-tall statue of Lord Shiva that has been built by the T.K. Patil Banakatti Charitable Trust in the city of Bijapur, Karnataka, India, on the Sindagi Road. It is slowly becoming a pilgrimage location and one of the highest visited tourist locations in Bijapur. On Maha Shivaratri, every year, it is estimated that the temple is visited by over 150,000 devotees. The temple was built by Mr. Basantkumar Patil, in memory of his father, in his hometown of Bijapur.
The 1,500 tonnes statue of Lord Shiva is considered as the second largest resting statue of Lord Shiva in India and was prepared by sculptors from Shimoga for over 13 months. The civilian design was supplied by Bangalore-situated architects. The idol of Lord Shiva is made of cement and steel. A small Shiva Linga has been placed beneath the statue. Also, the “Shiva Charite” will be engraved on the inside walls of the Temple in the Kannada language to help devotees learn the mythological stories related to Shiva. The Trust wants to make it a major pilgrimage centre.
Public interest has been anticipated by the Trust with the series of charity work relating to the statue.
