1. Lohagarh Fort
Place Description
Lohagarh Fort is located in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, India. It was built by the Jat rulers and is known for its impregnability. During The Siege of Bharatpur in 1805, the fort successfully withstood multiple attacks by British forces led by Lord Lake. Despite a siege lasting over six weeks, the British failed in all four attempts to storm the fortress.
The fort has two gates – the Ashtadhatu gate in the north and the Chowburja gate in the south. Within the fort, there are several monuments including Kishori Mahal, Mahal Khas, and Kothi Khas.
Jawahar Burj, built by Raja Jawahar Singh in 1765, commemorates his victory over the Mughals at the Battle of Delhi. It was also used for the coronation ceremonies of the rulers. Fateh Burj, built by Raja Ranjeet Singh in 1805, commemorates his triumph over the British at the Siege of Bharatpur.
