7. Qila Mubarak ( Razia Sultana)

Place Description

Qila Mubarak is a historical monument located in the heart of the city of Bathinda in Punjab, India. It holds great significance as a national monument and is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India. This fort has stood in its current location since 1100 to 1200 AD, making it the oldest surviving fort in India. It is known for being the place where Razia Sultan, the first woman to ascend the Delhi throne, was imprisoned and dethroned after her defeat. The fort’s bricks date back to the Kushana period, during the reign of Emperor Kanishka in Northern India/Bactria. It is believed that Raja Dab, along with Emperor Kanishka, constructed this fort. In the latter part of the 10th century, Qila Mubarak was ruled by Jayapala, a ruler of the Hindu Shahi dynasty.
